NOAK Observatory (L02)

Meteorological data from satellites

In the summer of 2025, the NOAK Observatory looked into how to get meteorological data from artificial satellites passing over the area where it's located. With the acquisition of the appropriate equipment (satellite dish, suitable amplifiers and filters) as well as software and know-how, the first downloads were made. Over time, after much experimentation and the acquisition of experience, the results are very impressive. The equipment is focused on receiving data in the L band, specifically at 1700 MHz, so that the data is in HRPT format, offering a resolution of 1km/px. The satellites from which the data is obtained are the Russian METEOR M2-3, METEOR M2-4, and the European METOP B and METOP C.
